October News!

A beautiful green leaf just starting to yellow had fallen from a tree that stood beside the river and lay there waiting for me to spot it as I walked along the shore, which I did.

The river I was walking along when I discovered the leaf.

Outside of my studio window.

A work in progress which I have since finished and is now at The MUN Botanical Gardens to be exhibited, along with other paintings from November 7th to the 30th in their annual garden and nature exhibition.

Another painting inspired by the gorgeous colors of Fall.
October flew past quickly and here I sit writing in my cozy den with a plump dog asleep beside me. I just returned from a walk in the cold of this early November evening and I'm grateful for my warm robe and fuzzy socks. It's been a busy month of painting and exhibiting my work and meeting new people. I have another group exhibit coming up at the end of the week that I'm very happy to be a part of. I haven't shown my work in a long time and it's exciting to be back at it.

I've been published! Esme, one of my art dolls, has been featured in the Winter edition of Art Doll Quarterly. I was delighted when I went to my mail box to check for mail and discovered a complimentary magazine saying I had been published.

Leaves fall silently to the ground on this cold Autumn day and blanket the grass with color. It's warm and welcoming inside as I battle this very weird flu that has kept me housebound all week. It has been a good time to update my website and to write my newsletter, artist statement and descriptions for the paintings I will be exhibiting at the end of the month. The downtime has also allowed me to reevaluate my business goals and to plan the concept for my entry in the Arts and Letters Awards this year. Hopefully, I will be back on my feet soon.

New Jewelry

Some lovely jewelry available for sale in my Etsy shop. I'm very sick with the flu and am unable to write much. Hopefully, I will be well soon.

Autumn is here and that means gorgeous color everywhere we look, the smell of wood smoke in the air, and hot tea and warm blankets in the evening. I've been spending a lot of time in my studio painting and making jewelry. It's nice watching the leaves on the maple trees outside my window slowly turn from green to shades of yellow, red, orange and gold. Breathtaking!
I"m excited about a group exhibition I'm in at the end of the month and happy to spend time with fellow artists and share my work with the public.

Happy Friday!

It's been such a gorgeous day here today and an awesome beginning to the weekend. I've been very busy in the studio making new jewelry for my Etsy shop and pictured are some of the pretties I have listed recently. I love, love, love working with copper wire so much and I could be a little addicted to it. Lol!
Enjoy your weekend everyone and do something fun! :)

New Work!

It's been eons since I last wrote. Summer is here and gone and in Newfoundland it was a short one indeed. Above are images of some stone spiral pendants that I have listed in my Etsy shop. I have an article about the pendants in the Autumn edition of Belle Armoire Jewelry Magazine and I thought it would be nice to add some to my shop. The magazine has always been a favorite of mine and one of my bucket list items was to get published in it. :)

Happy Friday!

It was snowing and the sun was trying really hard to shine at the same time. It made a beautiful, magical scene.

My Kobo gives me many hours of pleasure. I don't know why I resisted for so long.

Another batch of soap made for the family.

Another snowy day of many we have had this Winter.

Making bread on a Saturday afternoon.

Home made apple pie. It was the best pie ever. :)

Re reading this book. It is so funny.

Bread baked and cooling on the stove. Nothing like the smell of bread baking in the oven.

Above are some of my photos from 100happydays.

Life has been moving along very quickly and we are now a little closer to the warm, beautiful days of Summer. I long for the day when I can sit outside again and listen to the birds and feel the sunshine on my face and watch all the little creatures going about their business. It's been a long, cold Winter here in Newfoundland and I'm ready to dust off my t shirts and flip flops and get out. I fear that it will be another few months before I can actually do that. I have been busy with various projects so my days are full and my nights too and fortunately, I don't suffer from lack of sunshine. Always keeping busy helps with that and makes me feel productive. :)

Some Progress!

Some progress made on the drawing of my father.

I write in my journal almost every night and I have kept a journal for over 25 years.

Some of the things I have created over the years.

A new pencil set.

Watching Coronation Street and drinking coffee on a Sunday morning.

My bedroom is my sanctuary and I love my bed.

I've made some progress on the drawing of my father, slow progress, but progress just the same. As well, here are some photos from the 100happydays project. I really enjoy looking for things that make me happy. :)

WIP!

The start of a new drawing of my father. He's looking a little spooky at this stage but he should look more alive after a couple of drawing sessions.

Completed!

Self Portrait
Done, done and done! Lol! I started another portrait of my father. I decided to put the Lana drawing on hold for now because as I was going through my photos the other day, I discovered one of my dad that I had taken and forgotten about. He had let his hair grow too long and hadn't shaved and he reminded me of Scrooge. I love drawing my father's face because it has so many lines and interesting details on it.

Happy Moments!

A clean fridge inside and out is awesome!

A basket full of freshly washed and folded hand towels and facecloths is always nice.

Vincent, one of five cats that I live with. :)

I'm sitting in bed now drinking a cup of apple tea with honey while I write. With me, in various cozy spots around my bedroom, are four cats and one dog, all sleeping peacefully. I feel much better today and I went on an excursion to Chapters/Starbucks and had a yummy bevvie while I read the mags. I also treated myself to a new pencil set which I am eager to try out very soon. I've posted some photos from the 100happydays project which I'm enjoying very much. Tomorrow I will spend packaging some goodies to send off to magazines in hopes of publication, always a fun thing to do. Goodnight and sweet dreams. xo

Almost Finished!

So, I was almost finished the portrait when I noticed that the eyes were off a bit. I couldn't quite understand what I was seeing because it looked like the photo. My eyes on the photo were a little off too which was odd but I hadn't noticed. Feeling frustrated with a lead weight in my stomach -- the feeling I get when I mess up my drawings -- I erased the eyes and tried again. I'm a little more satisfied with the results and I will post a photo tomorrow when I can take one in the daylight. I took the reference photo with my phone and my daughter says the camera can skew the photos. Anyway, I had a great week drawing, despite being sick. I was afraid at times that I would sneeze all over my work and that wouldn't do, nope. Lol! Next up is a drawing of Lana Del Rey for my daughter, Becca! It should be a fun one to do.

Work In Progress!

Here are some progress images of a self portrait I have been working on the last couple of days. I still have a lot of work left to do on the face and hair but I love to draw and I've been sick with the flu and it's been snowing, windy and cold outside so it's all good. The neck and shoulders will come next once I'm happy with the rest. The lighting of the images is a little inconsistent because I have been taking the progress shots at different times of day. The first image is the truest because I took this in daylight. The second and third I took with night time light so they are a little washed out looking.
